Julia has demonstrated great initiative outside her day-to-day role by taking a holistic approach to her work, linking together forestry management, utilities work and environmental considerations in a strategic and innovative way. This has allowed Julia and her colleagues to give more detailed ecological advice to clients and
made her a more effective, well-rounded and collaborative manager overall.
Over the past three years, she has worked closely with Scottish Woodlands’ Direct Labour operatives to encourage a collaborative approach to site work and has been building the Utilities environment team with the aim to deliver all environmental management in-house.
Julia has spent a significant amount of time shadowing senior management within the Scottish Woodlands Utilities division to extend her forestry and project management skills. She also regularly attends in-house and external training events, both organised by the company and individually arranged, to further her knowledge.

In the three years since Bryony transferred from the retail sector to forestry, she has made a remarkable impact in FLS. Her contributions have seen her bringing challenges to the norm, sharing research, supporting senior leaders in responding to major events, and stepping up to establish and bring structure and clarity to new work programmes. In short, Bryony has been major force in delivering transformational change in FLS’s land management operations.
FLS is currently near completion of a £26.7 million construction project to transform Newton Tree Nursery near Elgin. Bryony was instrumental in assembling the ‘economic case’ during planning and took a lead role in defining the outcomes and benefits that FLS is seeking from this investment.
Over recent years Bryony has developed inspirational, empowering, and strategic leadership capabilities and has become a very effective leader. She is hugely passionate about driving positive change in the forestry sector and her background in leading diverse teams and managing complex projects has positioned her uniquely to bring a fresh perspective to the industry.

Introduced to practical forestry at an early age, Robbie has been instrumental in leading the implementation of efficient and safe systems of work within the business. He has built Scotwood Macdonald to become the go-to choice for many foresters for mensuration and drone surveys.
Robbie took the decision to grow the company and has employed a number of staff and is looking to further expand, showing the leadership required to develop an effective team. His qualities are reflected in the retention of employees and contractors.
Robbie has undertaken further training by way of short courses and organised bespoke courses for the mensuration team in reaffirming and consolidating techniques. He is also leading a cross-industry discussion about safety, in particular with respect to the response procedures for mountain rescue teams working in forested areas.

Throughout Cora's career, she has shown enthusiasm and ambition to progress while expanding her knowledge and experience with every role. Her approach to both management of existing woodlands and creation of new is one of respect for the land and in-depth understanding about what is appropriate, and what can be achieved.
Since joining Maydencroft, one of Cora’s great achievements has been to develop and deliver forestry training courses on behalf of our Greenskills Training Academy, for internal staff and external candidates. She is passionate about education and mentorship, and has always received glowing reviews from any training she has delivered.
Across her team and the wider company, she inspires very high standards and expectations around client and project management, and always leads by example. She takes a huge amount of pride in her team, and always works to recognise their achievements and ensure that they are widely recognised.
