Confor response to the Land Use Framework for England consultation
In January, the Government launched a consultation on a new strategic approach to managing land use in England. Confor will be responding on behalf of the industry, highlighting the need for trees and woodlands to be a key element of any new framework in order to ensure timber security for the future.
England has limited land with growing demands being made of it. This consultation explores the land use changes implied by commitments to restore nature, support food production, improve climate resilience and deliver new housing and infrastructure.
It seeks views on the type and scale of land use changes that might be needed, as well as the actions government could take to support this. This will help to foster a public discussion about how land can better support government’s plan for change.
The consultation documents are available from Defra and responses are due by 11:59pm on 25 April 2025. Confor has prepared a summary of relevant points for members.
Confor will be responding to this consultation on behalf of the industry. The below survey has been created to capture the thoughts of our members and to highlight the key issues we feel will impact trees, woodlands and timber within the scope of this proposed framework.
This survey is your opportunity to submit evidence and commentary that may support our collective industry response. The deadline for responses has been extended to 17 April 2025.
Confor will provide a summary of key points derived from this survey in early April 2025 that you may wish to use in your own responses.
We strongly encourage members to respond separately to the Land Use Framework consultation as volume of responses will add weight. If you require any other help with this Consultation, or if you wish to raise other pertinent aspects not covered within this member survey, please contact John.Bruce@confor.org.uk for support.
Please note the questions in this survey assume you have reviewed the consultation documents and are familiar with the material.
